Professor John Clark

Professor John Clark was the Pitch-In project lead. He is a Professor of Computer and Information Security at the University of Sheffield and leads the Security of Advanced Systems Research Group.

After studying mathematics and then applied statistics at Oxford, John spent five and a half years at the software and systems consultancy Logica working on the Security Evaluation Facility (EF) and then on an R&D security thinktank. Following this he took up a lectureship in safety critical system engineering at York in 1992 and was appointed to a chair in critical systems in 2005. He joined Sheffield in April 2017 and currently heads the Security of Advanced Systems Research Group in Computer Science.

He is also Academic Director of the Siemens Mindsphere Lounge (concerned with promoting the Internet of Things technology) and is the Principal Investigator for Research England’s Pitch-In (Promoting the Internet of Things via Collaboration between HEIs and Industry) Connecting Capabilities Fund project (2018–2021, £4.93 million).

He is the Sheffield lead for the collaborative EPSRC DAASE (Dynamic Automated Adaptive Software Engineering) Programme Grant. He is the Principal Investigator for the Office for Students Catalyst Award for the MSc in Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence. The application of AI in critical systems (particularly security and safety critical systems) is his major research focus. His work has been cited almost 7000 times.
